What does "self-ligating" mean?
Self-ligating means that the brackets on your teeth do not require special ties or elastic bands to hold your archwire in contact with your brackets.
Are Self-Ligating braces right for me?
Self-ligating brackets are only used in certain circumstances. They are generally used where light corrective force is needed, so if you are interested in them, ask your orthodontist.
How do they feel once they're put on?
3M Unitek works hard to find ways to continually reduce patient discomfort. SmartClip™ Self-ligating Braces use lighter forces and cause less friction than conventional braces resulting in a more comfortable fit for you.
Will I have fewer appointments with my orthodontist if I choose this type of system?
Brackets with conventional archwire systems require frequent visits for maintenance and tightening that are not always necessary with SmartClip self-ligating braces.
